FAQs

  • What is vermiculite absorbent used for?

Vermiculite absorbents are used to clean up oil, fuel, and chemical spills and to provide cushioning in hazardous material packaging.

Ultra Tech Absorbents are UN-approved, making them a safe choice for spill control, shipping, and storage.

  • How effective is vermiculite for oil and chemical spill cleanup?

Vermiculite is highly effective because it is lightweight, porous, and non-reactive, allowing it to absorb large volumes of oil and chemicals quickly.

Ultra Tech Absorbents can hold over twice their weight in liquid, making cleanup safer and faster.

  • Can vermiculite be used in hazmat packaging?

Yes. Vermiculite is the industry standard absorbent for hazardous material packaging.

Ultra Tech Absorbents are UN-approved and meet IATA, IMDG, and DOT regulations, ensuring compliance for shipping liquids by air, land, or sea.

  • How much liquid can vermiculite absorb?

On average, 25 lbs. of vermiculite can absorb 41–61 quarts of oil, depending on the grade.

Ultra Tech Absorbents are designed to maximize capacity while keeping weight and disposal costs low.

  • What are the different grades of vermiculite absorbents?

Vermiculite absorbents are available in several grades, each designed for specific spill control and packaging needs.

Ultra Tech offers Super Fine, Fine, Coarse, Extra Coarse, and Vermsorb™.

Super Fine and Fine provide excellent absorption for smaller spills and tight containment.

Coarse and Extra Coarse add cushioning and stability, with Extra Coarse being ideal for 55-gallon overpack drums.

Vermsorb™, is our specially engineered grade for rapid spill cleanup, delivering exceptional absorbency in a lightweight, easy-to-handle form.

  • Is vermiculite a safe and eco-friendly absorbent?

Yes. Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral that is non-toxic, chemically inert, and landfill-safe.

Ultra Tech Absorbents are an environmentally friendly alternative to clay or synthetic absorbents.

  • How does vermiculite compare to clay or diatomaceous earth absorbents?

Vermiculite is lighter, more absorbent, and cleaner than clay or diatomaceous earth. Unlike clay, it doesn’t leave abrasive dust or residue.

Ultra Tech Absorbents reduce overall cleanup and shipping costs because they absorb more liquid per pound.

  • Is vermiculite approved for air and ocean shipping of hazardous materials?

Yes. Vermiculite is approved under IATA (air), IMDG (ocean), and DOT (ground) regulations.

Ultra Tech Absorbents meet all major standards, making them reliable for international hazmat transport.

  • Where can vermiculite absorbents be used?
